Grounds Krewe Continues to Grow Mardi Gras Sustainability Movement
January 30, 2026
Since LSU alum Brett Davis founded Grounds Krewe, the company has helped reshape how Mardi Gras revelers think about throws. Grounds Krewe has sold more than 780,000 sustainable throws since 2020, with 198,000 eco-friendly throws set to roll in parades in this year’s Mardi Gras season alone.

Grounds Krewe efforts are also expanding its reach across Louisiana, now selling branded sustainable throws to 14 krewes, including Artemis in Baton Rouge and Centaur in Shreveport. Behind the scenes, Grounds Krewe is collaborating with the LSU AgCenter on new bead alternatives.
Along with national media attention to their work, Davis says the most encouraging change has been watching parade sustainability efforts grow organically.
“We’ve seen parade sustainability conversations and efforts expand dramatically over the last four years. We frequently encounter businesses, events, forums, etc. that we had no part in planning around the subject,” Davis said.
